There
are still many operators using Lift Truck equipment
without any formal training and will only react when
an accident has occurred.
They
will be unaware that fines for such misuse can be imposed
by magistrates (unlimited at Crown Court), up to £
20,000 per person to include managers, supervisors,
directors etc so the total could exceed many thousands
of pounds.
With
new legislation regarding corporate manslaughter happening
now is it worth the risk?
Accredited
training is available for Company and private customers
alike covering all types and categories of Lift Truck
machines and Equipment, under the approved Code of Practice
and Supplementary Guidance for Rider Operated Lift Trucks
- Operator Training (L117).
Existing
operator previously certificated under an accredited
scheme is advised to undergo refresher training enabling
them to keep up to date with operating procedures and
legislation changes.
An
unnecessary cost you say, a waste of time! Maybe. It
doesn't have to be.
Training
courses are normally conducted on a 3:1 basis, ie 3
trainees to 1 Instructor over the requisite time of
the course; this can be reduced for fewer trainees,
for instance, an existing operator, requiring the basic
three-day training course could complete this legitimately
in 1.5 days if this was conducted on a 1:1 basis. Thereby
keeping you're down time to a minimum.
Assessments
are available if you are not sure of your requirements,
it may not be as bad as you think.
Training
will normally be carried out at customers premised to
maintain continuity of equipment used, if this is not
suitable, other arrangements can be made.
