The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) voluntary register of Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Instructors was launched on 1 April 1997. The Register has been developed by DSA in close conjunction with the Freight Transport Association, the Road Haulage Association, and the Road Haulage & Distribution Training Council - now known as Skills for Logistics, the National Training Federation, the Institute of Large Goods Vehicle Instructors, the Association of Vocational Driver Training Providers and RTITB Services Ltd.
Currently registration is voluntary, although
compulsory registration is to become statute in due course. This
has dramatically increased the standards required and is now the bench
mark for professional LGV trainers.
Driver
Training Centre Instructors have been registered from
the start, and are retested by the DSA every four
years, thereby maintaining and improving the very
high standards we set ourselves as the ‘Training
Providers’
